"CORRUPTION AND ECONOMIC GROWTH IN ASEAN COUNTRIES"
Abstract: “This paper studies the impact of corruption on economic growth in ASEAN countries over the period of 1999- 2019. Ten ASEAN countries are Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, and Singapore. The economic growth is measured by annual percentage growth rate of a country's gross domestic product and annual percentage growth rate of per capita gross domestic product. The corruption is measured by the corruption perception index published by Transparency International. The regression results show that corruption has a positive impact on economic growth for countries with high level of corruption, whereas corruption has no impact on economic growth for countries with low or medium level of corruption. For control variables, foreign direct investment is found to have a positive impact on countries with high level of corruption and government expenditure is found to have a negative impact on economic growth f”
