A SYSTEM FOR MONITORING OF OPERATIONAL SAFETY OF FERROMAGNETIC STRUCTURES

Published In: 3RD INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ADVANCES IN CIVIL, STRUCTURAL AND MECHANICAL ENGINEERING
Author(s): JANUSZ JURASZEK

Abstract: The paper presents a system for monitoring of operational safety of ferromagnetic structures used in civil engineering, machine construction and power engineering. The system is based on sensors of the residual magnetic field (RMFM) distribution. A change in values of individual components of the residual magnetic field informs in advance about the appearance of areas with a raised level of stresses or stress concentration zones and identifies micro cracks. The paper presents numerous examples of identification of hazard areas both in machine construction (forging press drive shafts) and in civil engineering (transporter crane steel structure). The information obtained from the system for monitoring of operational safety of ferromagnetic structures has already made it possible to take appropriate preventive measures to avert a major catastrophe.

NEW DESIGN METHOD FOR LAP SCARF JOINT USED FOR RECONSTRUCTION OF TIMBER STRUCTURES

Published In: 3RD INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ADVANCES IN CIVIL, STRUCTURAL AND MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

Abstract: The article describes a development of a new carpentry join suitable for reconstructions of timber structures; it is possible to replace only damaged parts of wooden beam with help of the joint. The mechanical behavior of the joint was analyzed in details. The inclined faces transfer the direction of loading and use of less stiff wooden dowels allows better distribution of stresses. The design methodic has been created so that the maximum of joint potential is used safely.
