1. EFFECTS OF A HIGH VOLTAGE LINE ON A BIOLOGICAL TISSUE

Abstract: Living tissues are highly heterogeneous, with very specific properties; and in order to determine the interactions between electromagnetic fields generated by different sources to which we are exposed, it is imperative to be able to calculate the induced electromagnetic currents and to find out the resulting reactions. To apprehend the field nuisance on people’s health, this paper highlights some of these effects from a simulation study of biological tissues (muscle sample) subjected to the electromagnetic field created by a 440 kV HV line. Induced currents in these tissues and their effects on blood microcirculation will be emphasized.

2. NEW TECHNOLOGY AND DEVICES FOR FAST REMOTE DETECTION OF ALPHA AND BETA RADIоAсTIVE CONTAMINATION

Abstract: The paper summarizes the results of studies by the authors of the gas-discharge method for the fast remote registration of alpha and beta radioactive contaminants on the surfaces of a complex profile and in limited volumes of workplaces of radiation-hazardous objects. Specific features of technical solutions ensuring the detection stability of alpha and beta radiation with the help of a gas-discharge counter open to the air are considered. The design variants and main characteristics of search devices are given that allowing quickly (less than 3 seconds) detecting spot and distributed alpharadioactive contamination at distances of about 50 cm. The design and operation modes of the portal pedestrian radiation monitor recording small alpha and beta radioactive contamination on clothes and open parts of a person's body are shown.

3. TELECOMMUNICATIONS REFORM IN SAMOA: THE INTRODUCTION OF COMPETITION LAW

Abstract: Legislative and regulatory reforms in the telecommunications sector of Pacific Small Island Developing States (“SIDS”) stands out from the wider Asia Pacific region. Samoa was the first of the Pacific SIDS to undergo telecommunications reform. With the enactment of Samoa’s first Competition and Consumer Act (2016) (“the Act”), this article presents our preliminary findings from initial evidence exploring the interface between competition law and telecommunications reform in Samoa, following commencement of the Act in 2017, effectively repealing the Fair Trading Act 1998 and the Consumer Information Act 1989. It also seeks to understand the effective approaches to help redress regulatory and legislative compliance issues in the telecommunications sector. Key lessons from this research will be pivotal for the Telecommunications and Competition law makers in both Samoa and the Pacific SIDS. 4. IMPROVING HOSPITAL SERVICES USING CLOUD AND SPEECH TO TEXT TECHNOLOGIES

Abstract: Nowadays in many hospitals all over the world there is an acute lack of physicians. In many cases in such hospitals, the physicians are overwhelmed by a large number of patients which they must consult or visit after a surgery. In order to help them, the physicians are accompanied by resident students which are learning from the physician, but also must note his observations, usually there is a student in the group which will note the observations and then, after the visit he will wrote down on the patient observation sheet the physician observations. Many times, the student is not able to write everything down and he is writing what he is remembering resulting that important information will be omitted. 5. WHITE-ROT FUNGI AND THEIR ENZYMES IN DEVELOPMENT OF INDUSTRIAL EFFLUENT TREATMENT SYSTEMS

Abstract: Industrial effluents containing wastewater from textile and dyestuff industries is one of the most difficult to be treated. Since it contains various kinds of synthetic dyes The strong color of these discharged dyes even at very small concentrations has a huge impact on the aquatic environment caused by its turbidity and high pollution strength: in addition toxic-degradation products can be formed, they can cause serious environmental pollution illustrating the need for a non-specific method of decolorization. The low biodegradability of these dyes due to, complex aromatic molecular structures, with most of the dyes being very stable to light, temperature and microbial attack, making them recalcitrant. 6. CHARACTERIZATION OF INDIAN FLY ASHES FOR MINE STOWING

Abstract: The objective of this study was to select the best fly ash material which can replace river bed sand to fill underground coal mine voids. To achieve the objectives, this study examined the suitability of seven numbers of Indian fly ashes for filling in the underground coal mine voids based on their physicochemical, morphological and mineralogical characteristics. The physical properties such as bulk density, specific gravity, particle size distribution, specific surface area, porosity, moisture content, pH etc. have been determined. The chemical and mineralogical properties were also determined in the laboratory by X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) and X-ray fluorescence (XRF) studies. From the chemical characterization it is found that the fly ash samples are enriched predominantly with silica (SiO2), alumina (Al2O3) and iron oxides (Fe2O3) along with a little amount of CaO and all the seven fly ash samples

8. CHEMICAL STABILIZATION OF EXPANSIVE ESNA SHALE, QENA REGION, EGYPT

Abstract: This investigation deals with a chemical stabilization program of expansive Esna shale, which widely distributed on the surface at the arid region along both West and East of Qena governorate, Egypt. Chemical stabilization program was applied to improve the geotechnical properties of the studied Esna expansive shale using both lime and cement kiln dust (CKD, as by product). Optimum-lime and -cement kiln dust (CKD) contents were measured using pH test according to Eades and Grimm method. Geotechnical tests of both natural and treated Esna shale samples as free swelling, ultrasonic velocity (Vp), and unconfined compressive strength (qu) were carried out. The results showed that the geotechnical properties of the studied expansive Esna shale samples mixed with CKD and/or lime were improved and stabilized. Also the results indicated that curing time increase from 7 to 90 days having a great influence on the improvement of the geotechnical behavior of the studied expansive Esna shale sample
