1. IMPROVING EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT

Authors: AURIK GUSTOMO , AYU SRIKANDI AGUNG

Abstract: Employees are one of determinants to bring a company reaches the goals. In working, happiness and satisfaction are not enough to create best outcomes. Employee might be happy and satisfy in works, but it is possible that they are not productive. Employee should give something, which is not only limited in the contract, called engagement. PT. Suwanda Karya Mandiri (PT. SKM) is one of private-owned company as a consultant engineering in Indonesia operated in Bandung, West Java. High turnover and less responsibility in this company make the engagement of employee questionable. This research combines three theories of employee engagement from The Institute for Employment Studies (IES) Engagement Model and American Society for Training and Development (ASTD) Theory as drivers of employee engagement, and The People Metric Theory as a form of employee engagement.

2. STUDY ON MOTION CHARACTERISTICS FOR A NOVEL QUADRUPED ROBOT WITH HYDRAULIC ACTUATOR

Authors: FENG GAO , JING WANG , XIAOLEI HAN

Abstract: A novel quadruped robot with special hybrid mechanism and hydraulic actuator is proposed in this paper. The feature of the robot is high power density and high reliability. It promotes the possibility of practical application of robots. The advantage of the hybrid mechanism is that it makes hydraulic actuators mounted on the torso intensively. This is benefit for adopting protective measures to prevent robots from nuclear, water and fire. The aim of this paper is to analyze the motion characteristics of the hybrid mechanism and to find out the inherent law of actuator designation with robot mechanism. The analysis results indicate that in a certain range the changes of step length have nothing to do with the maximum flow rate of actuators as long as the travel speed of robot remains constant, but the stroke of actuator changes with the step length. The Swing angle of actuator is very small, which is useful for extending hydraulic hose service life and improving robot reliability and sa

3. BASIC STUDY ON OPTIMIZATION OF SEAT ANGLES FOR LOWER LIMB BLOOD FLOW

Authors: DAISUKE SANNAN , HIROMU HASHIMOTO , SAORI SONE , TAKEO KATO , YOSHIYUKI MATSUOKA

Abstract: In recent years, desk workers sitting in a chair for many hours have some problems: swelling of lower limbs, congestion, pressure ulcer and etc. This study aims to clarify the optimal seat angles. For this aim, the changes in lower limb blood flow causing these symptoms were measured to each combination of the seat angles. As a result, it was confirmed that the shear and compressive forces between the buttock and the seat fluctuated by the seat angle strongly influence lower limb blood flow. And the possibility to optimize the seat angles using these forces was indicated

4. ELECTROMYOGRAM AS A VIABLE DIRECT HUMAN INPUT FOR HUMAN MACHINE INTERFACES INTERFACE DESIGN WITH CASE STUDIES

Authors: G SAJAYSURYA , J SURESH KUMAAR , K PRAKASAN, M MADHU

Abstract: Direct Human Input (DHI) is an input methodology for Human Machine Interfaces (HMI). Use of DHI eliminates physical input devices as input data is collected directly from the signals generated by the human body. Various varieties of DHI exists of which Electromyogram (EMG) is found to have properties that makes it readily applicable. In this work, the capability of EMG to detect facial expressions of the user has been utilized to create a generalized interface that processes EMG signals into machine commands in accordance with the user’s facial expressions. The interface is essentially a combination of dimension reduction and classification algorithms that classifies EMG signals into facial expressions to activate machine commands correlated with the estimated facial expression. Linear Discriminant Analysis and Support Vector Machines have been used for dimension reduction and classification respectively. The interface has been found to perform satisfactorily with a classification accu

Abstract: Twisted wing (TW) is a morphing technique that particularly suitable for a membrane wings MAV. However, the aerodynamic advantages of TW application on MAV wing scale are still needed to be explored. This is because the MAV design challenge is still concentrated in generating enough lift during flight. Thus, the present research is carried out to acquire an understanding of the basic aerodynamic performance of a TW MAV design. Based on fluid structure interaction (FSI) simulation, a comparative study with the baseline membrane and rigid wing performances is carried out to elucidate the superiority of the morphing wing lift and drag performance. The results show that, the TW configuration has significantly produced the highest CL and CD distribution. At a certain angle of attack (AOA), the TW configuration can generate up to 200% better CL than to the other wing types. However, TW also produced significantly higher drag than to the other wings. This drag results has overwhelm the succes

7. SIMULATION OF CYCLIC STRESS-STRAIN BEHAVIOR OF S960 AT WELD TOE BY MEANS OF FINITE ELEMENT METHOD

Authors: MOHAMMAD DABIRI , TIMO BJORK

Abstract: The cyclic stress-strain response of S960 at the toe of fillet-welded joint has been simulated by means of finite element method in order to gathering the needed data for fatigue life prediction process. The Femap software (Version 11.0.0) with NX Nastran 8.5 as its solver has been used in this simulation work. Since the special emphasis is on analyzing the cyclic behavior of weld toe and the softening effect on its cyclic behavior, for making a more accurate and realistic simulation, the 3D finite element model has been analyzed in two different categories: homogeneous (no softening) and inhomogeneous (with softening). The final cyclic stress-strain curve (CSSC) based on the stress and strain changes at weld toe for both cases have been obtained and compared

8. QUALITY FUNCTION DEPLOYMENT APPLYING STRUCTURAL MODEL

Authors: TAKEO KATO

Abstract: Sharing the product information between the product development members has been important due to the product diversification and complication. Quality Function Deployment (QFD) is an effective method to share the information of the product via the quality matrices that describes the relationship between design elements needed to be considered. This paper improves QFD by applying the Interpretive Structural Modeling (ISM) that visually expresses the complex relationship between them. The proposed QFD was applied to a head protection wear design problem.

9. A HYBRID AND EFFICIENT ADAPTIVE CARTESIAN GRID FOR SIMULATION OF UNSTEADY FLOW IN AERODYNAMICS APPLICATIONS

Authors: ALIREZA JAHANGIRIAN , MIR YOSEPH HASHEMI , NIMA MOLANI

Abstract: A Hybrid Grid Generation Method that combines the computational efficiency of the Cartesian grid and the flexibility of the meshless strategy is developed for computation of the compressible invicid flows over general geometries and moving boundary applications. The meshless zone is created around the geometry by producing layers of nodes along normal direction vectors while Cartesian grid method is used elsewhere. Last layer is used as virtual geometry for automatic generation of unstructured Cartesian grid around meshless zone. An efficient central difference scheme with artificial dissipation terms is developed for both Cartesian grid and meshless zones. The method is used for computation of flows around stationary, moving and oscillating airfoil at subsonic and transonic flow conditions. Results indicate good agreements with other reference numerical data.

Authors: ALAA ABDULHADY JABER , ROBERT BICKER

Abstract: In order to design a reliable monitoring or control system for any machine, some characteristics of the machine have to be known, such as machine natural frequencies. In this paper, firstly static evaluation of the PUMA 560 robot, which has been used in this research study, when it is powered on, was accomplished. Then, the experimental modal analysis is performed to obtain the natural frequencies of the robot. Experimental modal analysis consist of: exciting the robot by hand held impact hammer, measuring frequency response function (FRF) between the excitation and a point on the robot, and then using software to find the natural frequencies. This analysis was conducted when the robot at four different configurations. Moreover, the explanation of the method and setup used for the experiments, which measurement equipment are used, and how FRFs are calculated will be presented in this paper. Finally, easy to follow strategy have been proposed to be used for modal analysis of different

12. IMPACT OF BALL-SCREW PRE-LOADING ON THERMAL BEHAVIOR SIMULATION OF VERTICAL MACHINING CENTER DURING END-MILLING OPERATION

Authors: P GANESAN , P R THYLA , SUNILKUMAR S HONNUNGAR , V PRABHU RAJA

Abstract: Thermal drift at tool centre point (TCP) is caused mainly due to positional errors in feed drive system of machine tool. The important sources of these errors are frictional heat generated at contact areas such as ball screw-nut, bearing races and balls. In addition to this, heat losses of motor also contribute resulting in thermo-elastic deformation in feed drive system. The objective of the work presented here is to predict and analyse the thermal behavior at key locations of feed drive system by considering pre-load on ball-screw of feed-drive system. The boundary conditions in simulation were applied considering the losses incurred in bearing, nut as well in motor during end milling operation considering with and without pre-loading of ball-screw. The simulation model was developed and validated with the experimental data recorded on feed drive system of a Vertical Machining Center (VMC) considering non-cutting operation prior to this. The developed model may be used for design opt

13. A FRAMEWORK OF INTEGRATING AN RFID-ENABLED COMMUNICATION SYSTEM INTO AN AUTOMATED STORAGE AND RETRIEVAL MECHANISM

Authors: HONGWEI WANG , MISHA FILIP , NICK BENNETT , QIAN WANG

Abstract: A typical automated warehousing system consists of automatic storage and retrieval modules including lifting equipment and powered conveyor systems. These facilities are used to overcome some disadvantages of manually operated warehousing systems which often lead to a high frequency of human errors, high labour costs and low efficiency. The information system integration also plays a key role in speeding up data processing and coordinating inventory control and management in a warehouse. In recent years, it has also been seen a rising trend for online shopping across the UK as well as in many other countries. Suppliers or distributors have therefore been seeking for even more efficient and effective methods of storing and dispatching goods in a way of increasingly centralised distribution centres through which customers place their orders online and goods are dispatched automatically from storage and retrieval areas to collection points where these goods are packed and delivered direct
