1. EVALUATION AND MODELING OF STEAM DRIVE IN DIATOMITE UNDER RESERVOIR CONDITIONS

Authors: ARIFFIN BIN SAMSURI , REZA CHERAGHI KOOTIANI , SASAN MIRALI , SOROUSH CHEHREHGOSHA

Abstract: There are large petroleum deposits in low permeability diatomaceous rocks. These oil deposits form a substantial part of original oil trapped in the San Joaquin Valley, California. Water flooding and steam drive with hydraulically fractured injectors and producers are possible ways of recovering oil from such deposits. Water flooding in diatomaceous rocks has not been widely effective, primarily due to the low mechanical strength of the rock. The brittle formation fractures easily and fracturing leads to injector/ producer linkage. Steam injection on the other hand shows better prospects of performance in these reservoirs. Since diatomite is primarily silica, steam injection into a diatomite reservoir could cause some changes in reservoir rock characteristics due to dissolution, transport and re-precipitation of silica. This study is aimed at modeling mathematically this dissolution process and predicting the dissolution and precipitation rates by developing a simulator code that predi

2. ELECTROCHEMICAL CORROSION AND MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF WELDED AA 6061 JOINED BY TIG AND MIG WELDING METHODS

Authors: E. MAHDI , E. O. ELTAI

Abstract: Aluminium alloy 6061 T6 circular specimens were joined using TIG and MIG welding methods. Heat Affected Zone (HAZ) and Base Metal (BM) were separated from each other. Potentiodynamic polarization and open circuit potential were employed to investigate the corrosion properties. Mechanical properties were evaluated using tensile, and hardness tests. It was shown that corrosion resistance was less for the HAZ of TIG and MIG welded specimens. The BM showed better corrosion resistance. The corrosion potential of HAZs was largely fluctuated; the corrosion potential for BM was relatively stable. Both welding procedures affected the mechanical properties of the specimens. The ultimate tensile strength of the TIG welded AA 6061 T6 specimens was 193.107 MPa which is 54% that of the base metal. The ultimate tensile strength of the MIG welded AA 6061 T6 specimens was 155.725 MPa which is less than 50% that of the BM. The HAZ of TIG welded specimens had the lowest hardness, for MIG welding the weld

3. POLYURETHANE SYNTACTIC FOAMS FILLED WITH NANOCLAY

Authors: SOMCHOKE SONTIKAEW

Abstract: The neat and nanoclay polyurethane syntactic foams were prepared to investigate the effects of microballoons and nanoclay on their properties. The desired densities of all syntactic foams were 0.6 g/cc. The microballoon loadings filled in the neat syntactic foams were 3, 5, 7 and 9 wt%. All nanoclay syntactic foams contained 7 wt% microballoons. The nanoclay loadings used to produce the nanoclay syntactic foams were 0, 0.5, 1, 2, and 3 wt%. The compressive properties and hardness of the syntactic foams were examined. It was found that the hardness and compressive strength of the neat syntactic foams significantly enhanced as increasing the microballoon contents. For the nanoclay syntactic foams, the compressive strength decreased with the incorporation of the nanoclay. Specific hardness of the syntactic foams was, however, enhanced by the addition of nanoclay.

4. COST EFFECTIVENESS OF EFFICIENCY IMPROVEMENT IN VARIOUS INLET AIR COOLING SYSTEMS

Authors: ATHIKOM BANGVIWAT , KANYARAT TANKONG

Abstract: Construction of new power plants and regulatory process for permit issuance take a long lead time and sometimes do not match the demand of electricity. Therefore, an efficiency improvement with minor modifications on existing power plants can be an attractive option for taking less time and investment. Power plants with higher efficiency consume less energy or gain more power output generation, and inevitably require more investment. Performance enhancement options must be economically retrofitted to increase power output and efficiency. In practice, cost effectiveness is used for the justification of the different modifications.
