Abstract: Water is very important as one of the main factors of human life for drinking as well as purposes related to human life and human nature. Increasing demand of water caused the emerging science of dam engineering and also construction large dams for agricultural purposes, drinking, industry and also flood control, power generation, recreational and tourist use and etc. Large dams can remarkably effect on the environment as a non-stabilizing factor in nature in various stages of construction, operation and end of life by stopping the flow of the river and stored water. However, if the environment cannot tolerate this instability, the results of the destruction of this structure will gradually rise and the objective of dam construction will be lost. The reality is that, the environmental effects are not considered fully and completely for the most dams have been constructed in Iran. 2. DYNAMIC RESPONSE OF AXIALLY LOADED TIMOSHENKO BEAMS WITH INTERMEDIATE FIXITIES TO REPEATED TRANSIENT HYDRODYNAMIC IMPACT LOADS

Authors: MOHD ATIF SIDDIQUI, , NABANITA DATTA

Abstract: A dynamic analysis of axially loaded Timoshenko beams with intermediate fixities is presented. The underwater part of a craft is modeled as a flexible beam, which rises out and slams against the water at a large vertical velocity, causing highly localized hydrodynamic impact pressure moving at high velocities across the beam, setting it into high-frequency vibrations. The beam natural frequencies depend on the slenderness ratio, axial load, and end fixities. Increasing the axial tension and/or end fixity increases the natural frequencies, which are generated through Eigen analysis.Next, normal mode summation is used to analyze the impact-induced vibration response, which is generated for various impact speeds, deadrise angles, end fixities, axial loads, and slenderness ratios of the beam. A parametric study is done to predict the maximum dynamic stresses on the structure. The pressure is assumed to act at the equilibrium position. The aim is to study the dynamic stress configurations a

3. DETECTING CONTAMINATION SOURCES OF RADIOACTIVE SUBSTANCE BASED ON OPEN DATA ANALYSIS

Authors: KAZUNARI ISHIDA

Abstract: One of the serious fears for Japanese society is contamination of radioactive substances due to the huge earthquake and subsequent Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant disaster. This paper proposes a detection method to identify contamination sources of radioactive substances in the air based on open data, which are composed of air dose rate, amount of rain, wind speed, and direction. To select an appropriate area for analyzing contamination sources with this method, a field investigation is conducted in the west part of Japan, which is in a region approximately one thousand km from the east power plant. Based on the possible contamination origin found in the investigation, open data are analyzed by the method in terms of relationship between air dose rate and weather conditions. Air dose rate is observed on each public monitoring point. The nearest weather observation station for each public monitoring point concerning air dose rate is also identified to analyze the relationship between

Abstract: Since the most economic-agricultural activities in areas adjacent to the river is in flood plains, including a discussion on the management of these areas is the considerable, zoning map has an important effect on flood management, The right of the river bed, and the economic feasibility of development projects, forecast, warning and rescue operations and flood insurance could be included. Using computer models and using geographic information systems incorporating GIS as well as hydraulic and hydrologic models are the common methods of floodplain zoning maps. There are a variety of different performance capabilities and access to the data required by this model, so that we have to choose the best software related to that model. In this article, we try to introduce a few well-known models for floodplain zoning maps; some of the capabilities and applications are considered by some approaches. At the end, we express the factors that are affecting the accuracy of results.

6. TRANSITION MAP FOR VORTEX RINGS OVER AN AXIAL ROD

Authors: DEBOPAM DAS , PRAFULLA SOHONI , SWARANDEEP SAHOO

Abstract: Vortex rings are one of the most robust and fundamentally important fluid-structure in vorticity dominated flows. The rolling up of a slug of fluid mass, impulsively pushed out of an orifice, is generally stable. Owing to proposition of many applications of such flows, in the present study, an attempt has been made to characterize the nature of formation of vortex rings formed due to orifice in the presence of an axial rod. Experimental investigations are carried out to find the conditions under which the generated vortex ring is initially laminar or turbulent for various parameters. The results are used to draw a transition map pointing out the regions of different flow behavior.

7. ROBUSTNESS OF A VORTEX RING INTERACTING WITH AN AXIAL ROD

Authors: DEBOPAM DAS , PRAFULLA SOHONI , SWARANDEEP SAHOO

Abstract: Vortex rings are ubiquitous in nature as well in man-made devices such as starting jets and synthetic jets. Recently, useful applications of such flow structures in industry have been proposed that involve motion of vortex rings over an axially placed rod. Although free vortex rings are quite stable and propagate for long distances without disintegrating, the scenario is modified to a great extent in presence of such an interacting body. Thus, in the present study, we study their properties and robustness of vortex rings produced from an orifice, with an axial rod aligned symmetrically with respect to its direction of propagation. We find the effect of such vortex body interaction, with the help of flow visualizations, which reveals the extent of their sustainability under the given conditions.

8. THE LEARNING OF K-NEAREST NEIGHBOURS MODEL AND MULTIVARIATE ADAPTIVE REGRESSION SPLINES MODEL IN RAINFALL-RUNOFF PROCESSES AT PAHANG RIVER, MALAYSIA

Authors: DEWI ANNEKA BINTI HALID , ISMAIL BIN ATAN

Abstract: Ongoing needs to achieve the best accuracy of flood forecasting has stimulate this study to investigates the potential of two data driven model, where their application are relatively new in hydrology problems. The approaches studied here are K-Nearest Neighbours (KNN) and Multivariate Adaptive Regression Splines (MARS). To analyze and compares the performance of these two approaches in flood prediction, Pahang River in Malaysia has been selected as area of study. 30-years historical data set of daily rainfall and runoff at upstream tributaries of Pahang River were used to develop and validate the capability of both approaches in one-year-ahead prediction of flood discharge. The effect of different length of record data to the performance of models was also examined. Simulation results showed that longer period data can provide significant improvement to the performance of both approaches. However, satisfactory result of flood prediction only appeared superior for MARS model.

Authors: EHSAN NIKBAKHT , FARZAD HEJAZI , IMAN MOHSENI , KHALIM RASHID , SITI AMINAH OSMAN

Abstract: This study analytically investigates the seismic behaviour of post-tensioned precast segmental columns comparing with conventional monolithic bridge columns. For this purpose, 3D nonlinear finite element ANSYS software is employed. In this study, the numerical results of quasi-static analysis are compared and validated with the experimental results. Then, the behavior of the column samples of monolithic conventional and precast segmental are compared under lateral cyclic loading. The nonlinear-static analysis shows that the precast segmental bridge sample compared to the monolithic column has higher stiffness with negligible residual displacement.

Authors: OSMAN S.A , A. ADNAN , B. ASGARI

Abstract: With the growing construction of long-span bridges, the seismic response analysis of cable-stayed bridges have become a critical issue in engineering communities. Application of seismic isolation systems is a prominent way to improve the seismic performance of cable-stayed bridges. This paper investigates the performance of high damping rubber (HDR) bearings as seismic control systems for cable-stayed bridges. The design information of Tatara Bridge in Japan is considered for finite element (FE) modeling procedure. The time history method is applied for the seismic analysis. The seismic behavior of uncontrolled bridge is compared with the corresponding responses of isolated bridge to find out the efficiency of the control system. The results of investigations show that the addition of HDR bearings improve the seismic forces in cable-stayed bridges; however, the application of the isolation system increase the displacement response of the isolated bridge during the earthquake.

Authors: FARZAD HEJAZI , MOHD SALEH JAAFAR , ABDILAHI BASHIR OMER , AMIR FATEH

Abstract: Recently implementation of viscous damper devices as seismic energy dissipation attracts a lot of civil engineer interested due to effect of dampers in diminishing of earthquake loading. Furthermore along lateral load resistance systems, shear wall has better resistance performance by providing enough stiffness to the structure. But the overall weight of building is dramatically increased whenever shear walls are used as lateral resistance system. So, in present study an attempt has been made to evaluate seismic response of reinforced concrete structure which is equipped with viscous damper inside of shear walls. So, seismic response assessment carried out by aid of time history analysis and the results emerged in terms of average story displacement, axial force, moment and torsion in critical elements. Various models with different shear wall arrangement and embedded viscous damper layouts were subjected to earthquake excitation and response investigated. The results indicated that th

Authors: AFSHIN MELLATI , FARAMARZ KHOSHNOUDIAN , MOHAMMAD HADIKHAN TEHRANI

Abstract: Up to now, few studies have been done on seismic behavior of elevated water tanks, despite the necessity of water tanks for consuming water and firefighting, especially after earthquake. The scope of this paper is to propose new lateral load patterns to evaluate seismic responses of elevated water tanks supported on concrete shaft and also modeling the structures using simple models such as frame elements, Housner model and Cone model rather than rigorous methods. In this regard, a shaft supported elevated water tank is simulated by considering the soil-structure and fluid-structure interactions. Then the effects of soil type variations on these responses are investigated. By Incremental Dynamic Analysis (IDA) the exact responses of this structure are studied under an ensemble of ground motions. Thereafter, Nonlinear Static Analysis (NSA) named as Pushover is performed by variation of lateral load patterns. At the end, the more reliable lateral load patterns are proposed based on compa

Abstract: In this paper two dimension (2D) asymmetrical numerical simulation analyses has been conducted on ABAQUS using dynamic Explicit analysis and Concrete damaged plasticity constitutive model. The simulation study was conducted for critical impact energy on thick concrete slabs impacted with ogive nose hard projectile diameter of 26.9mm and 76.2mm having CRH ratio 2.0 and 6.0. The limitations of concrete damaged plasticity model also have been analyzed. Furthermore, the simulation modeling was extending to achieve critical impact energy and residual impact energy for perforation of same thick concrete slab. In case of penetration, it was found that the simulation results are in close relation with experimental data. The limitation of Concrete damaged plasticity model found as that, during the impact analyses model does not allow the removal of elements. The extended simulation modeling for perforation shows encouraging results for critical impact energy and residual impact energy.

Authors: AFSHIN MELLATI , MOHAMMAD HADIKHAN TEHRANI

Abstract: Using inappropriate system overstrength factors may lead to weak seismic performance or uneconomic results. Regulations suggest the suitable system overstrength factors for various seismic force-resisting systems. This is while a lot of parameters might affect on this factor. In this paper, the effects of various parameters such as the type of the moment frame, Seismic Design Category (SDC) and height of the building on overstrength factors of steel Moment Resisting Frames (MRF) are investigated. Hence, 12 buildings with perimeter steel MRF are designed three-dimensionally based on ASCE/SEI 7-10, AISC-LRFD 360-05 and AISC 341-05 regulations. Then, 24 two-dimensional MRFs of these buildings are simulated in OpenSees software and by conducting the Nonlinear Static Analysis (NSA); pushover curves of these structures are obtained. Finally, having these curves, relevant overstrength factors are gained. The results demonstrate that although altering the mentioned parameters, changes the over

Authors: AFSHIN MELLATI , FARAMARZ KHOSHNOUDIAN , MILAD FALLAHIAN , MOHAMMAD HADIKHAN TEHRANI

Abstract: In recent years using of base isolation systems due to improve in seismic performance of liquid storage tank was expanded. In this paper, the seismic behavior of the Liquid storage tank supported on DCFP isolation system under seven ground motions was investigated. The effects of essential parameters including slender of tank, period and coefficient of friction of the isolation system were investigated. In the parametric study, mass of liquid was idealized as convective mass, impulsive mass and rigid mass. In this analysis simplified three-degree freedom model to represent flexural and rocking vibrations of the tank was used. The results represent increasing of the slender ratio increases base shear and isolators forces and affects slightly on drift and isolation displacement. It is also shown that the period of isolators affects significantly on relative displacement of convective mass and isolators are remarkable.
