1. VIRTUAL MACHINE DEPLOYMENT IN CLOUD COMPUTING PLATFORM

Authors: CHUN-HUNG RICHARD LIN , KUAN-HUA TSENG , TZU-HUA HUANG

Abstract: In the paper, we use Bin-Packing algorithm to solve the resource-deployment problems. We have not only discussed different Bin-Packing algorithms, but also provided the refinement method to equip with Bulk Arrivals functionality while at the same time achieving an approximate efficiency of Online Bin-Packing and the similar result of Offline Bin-Packing. Finally, trying to testify each algorithm’s impact on cloud service system’s performance, we used the queueing system to compare four different algorithms’ impact in our model and analyze each reference data and correlations to provide a scheduling system which aligned with the need of Cluster Deployment from a developer’s viewpoint.

2. A STUDY ON INTEGRATED CONTINUOUS VARACTOR

Authors: CHUN WEI LIN

Abstract: The continuous varactor is an adjustable storage element often used in filter, resonant and delay control circuit. This paper presents the method to implement linear integrated continuous varactor. Through driving several MOS capacitors into inversion-mode (IMOS) with different bias, various characteristics arise in the capacitance with respect to overdrive voltage. The IMOS with various capacitances can be further utilized to synthesize a wide range linear varactor. By using TSMC 0.35um CMOS process, the implemented varactorprovides ±33% tunable capacitance within ±12% tuning range of voltage. In addition, the integrated varactor reaches picofarad scale which is considerably practical in many applications.

3. PROTOTYPE OF CASE BASED REASONING FOR RECOMMENDATION OF TROPICAL DISEASE

Authors: AINA MUSDHOLIFAH , RETANTYO WARDOYO , SRI MULYANA

Abstract: Case Based Reasoning is widely used in conluding problems based on cases happened in the past. The conclusion is based on the similarity of the case in the case base to the problem. Some problems might occur is any uncertainty in the case or in the problem to be solved. This paper presents a computational model of uncertainty in case based reasoning. This model is implemented as a prototype for diagnosing tropical disease.

4. A CORNER POTENTIAL FLOW BASED SHAPE DESCRIPTOR FOR OBJECT RECOGNITION

Authors: CH.SATYANARAYANA , M. RADHIKA MANI , POTUKUCHI D.M.

Abstract: Automated object recognition methods are essential for numerous applications of machine vision and pattern recognition. For an efficient object representation, a contour-based shape descriptor is designed, with a one dimensional shape signature. The present paper proposes a novel shape signature for recognizing the objects in complex plane. The proposed shape signature is applied on the contour shape representation, and then the description of representative shape features with the corner potential flow measure followed by the Fourier transformation. During recognition process, the Euclidean distance measure is evaluated to estimate the similarity score between the objects. The recital of the proposed shape descriptor has been checked with the Kimia 99 database. The experimental results are found to be robust and invariant to transformations.

5. HARDWARE-BASED STACK SMASHING ATTACK DETECTION & PRELIMINARIES ON RECOVERY PROCEDURE

Authors: FABIAN VARGAS , LETICIA BOLZANI POEHLS , RAPHAEL SEGABINAZZI FERREIRA

Abstract: In recent years, computer systems belonging to large companies, governments as well as personal computers have been experiencing an increasing wave of attacks that disrupt their normal operation or leak sensitive data. In this context, this paper presents a hardware-based approach (here namely a watchdog connected to the processor bus) which aims at detecting and recovering the system from stack smashing buffer overflow attack. Compared to existing approaches, the proposed technique does not need application code recompilation or use of any kind of supervisor software (e.g., an Operating System - OS) to manage memory usage. To validate the approach, a case-study based on the LEON3 softcore processor and benchmark test codes have been implemented. Experimental results indicate that this approach is able to detect and recover from an intrusion tentative for 100% of the test cases, while yielding low area overhead, negligible attack detection latency and processor performance degradation.

6. IDENTIFYING THE RESEARCH NEEDS OF FOUR LARGE HIGH-TECHNOLOGY COMPANIES

Authors: BEDIR TEKINERDOGAN , HAKAN FARUK SAFI , HASAN SOZER , MEHMET AKSIT , MERYEM AYAS

Abstract: Software excellence is defined as the adoption of advanced software techniques and methods to cope with the complexity and the needs of modern software systems. To accomplish this objective, the companies that develop software intensive systems must be able to follow and adopt the state-of-the-art developments in computer science and technology. In general, this implies carrying out research activities with the relevant universities. This paper presents an overview of a pilot implementation of the approach termed as “Describe, Search and Acquire the Required Capability” (DESARC), which aims at establishing a more effective identification of research projects, allocation of these research projects to research groups and the cooperation between universities and industry. In our previous publication [1], we have presented the initial results of the method. Currently, we have extended this study and applied it in total to four large high-technology companies. This paper can be useful for t

7. A SEMI-AUTOMATIC METHOD FOR BUILDING SEMANTIC DATA REPOSITORY APPLIED FOR VIETNAMESE TOURISM DATASETS

Authors: ANH-TIEN LE , TUAN-DUNG CAO

Abstract: In this work, we propose Semantic Tourist Data Innovation System (ViSIS) - a framework to generate linked dataset of tourism such as restaurants, hotels, attractions and hospitals. ViSIS extracts and integrates information about places from various relational datasets which contain the data from many different social media or location-based websites such as Foursquare, Agoda, Mytour, etc. These enormous and heterogeneous data are converted into a semantic knowledge base, which currently consists of more than 100,000 places in Vietnam and has started to expand with the information from other famous cities, i.e. London, Barcelona and Rome. This paper will describe the architecture of ViSIS, its processes and present an improved method for categorizing places.
