1. SYMMETRIC AND ASYMMETRIC INFLUENCE OF EXCHANGE RATE FLUCTUATIONS ON THE MONEY DEMAND IN MALAYSIA: NEW EVIDENCE FROM NON LINEAR ARDL APPROACH

Authors: HUSSIN ABDULLAH , SHEHU EL RASHEED

Abstract: Preceding investigations on the effects of exchange rate on money demand has assumed a linear relationship between exchange rate and money demand thereby estimating a linear models. This study adopted the Shin et al. (2014) Nonlinear ARDL model to investigate the asymmetric effects of exchange rate on money demand for Malaysia. Annual data for money supply, GDP, interest rate and exchange rate for the period 1975 to 2016 were employed. The results show that Malaysian Ringgit depreciation and appreciation exerts an asymmetric effects on the money demand over both short run and long run period. The implication is that the effect of exchange rate fluctuations on money demand is more through the expectations channels rather than the wealth effect.

2. ADOLESCENTS INTERESTS AND ASPIRATIONS IN SCIENCE AND SCIENTIFIC CAREERS, INQUIRY LEARNING AND SCIENCE IDENTITY

Authors: IZAZOL IDRIS , NIK AZMAH NIK YUSUFF

Abstract: From psychological perspective, identity relates to self-image and individuality. For science, this concern, among others, characteristics like showing particular skilled ways of performing scientific activities and holding beliefs that are associated with science. The aim of this study is to demonstrate relationships and comparison between students’ interest in science and attitude towards science, inquiry learning, and aspirations to engage in science careers with age and gender. Using a correlational and causal comparative design, a set of Science Interest Instrument by Dillon et al. (2008) was adapted and translated to Malay Language and administered to a total of 1025, 11-year-old and 12-year-old and a total of 938, 13-year old and 14-year old students. The data were analyzed descriptively in terms of percentage, and inferentially using t-Test, Chi-Square Test, and Pearson Correlation. The results indicated that there was a large positive correlation between interest in and atti

3. FACILITATING INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATIVE COMPETENCE DURING STUDY ABROAD

Authors: MUGE GUNDUZ

Abstract: The phenomenon of “globalization” has been one of the mostly debated concepts especially in the last twenty years. In recent years, in line with an intensive increase throughout the world in political, economic, social, cultural and academic relations and collaboration opportunities, the concept of globalization has emerged. New cooperative fields, partnerships and solidarities make education necessary to be analyzed from the perspective of various approaches. In the process of globalization, new values have also emerged with their different dimensions and contents (Budak, Çakmak & Gündüz, 2015). Relating one’s culture to the host culture demands a readiness to reflect, confront oneself and above all, to play a mediating role (Risager, 1998) between both cultures, and indeed to change (cited in Martinez et al. 2016, p.340). Nevertheless, this change or intercultural learning “can only be grasped by inferring it from changes in people’s behaviors” (cited in Borghetti, Bea

Authors: NAKAMOL CHANSOM , WANRUDEE SUKSANGUAN

Abstract: This research aimed to: (1) study the travel behavior of Don Mueang Airport service users (2) investigate the types of travelling expenses and (3) examine the relationships between purposes of travel and modes of travel. The population and the sample included 400 Don Mueang Airport service users. The research instrument was a questionnaire. The statistics included frequency, percentage and Pearson Chi-Square. The research findings are as follows. (1) The travelers had travel frequency of not more than 5 times a year were at 64.7 percent, traveled to Don Mueang Airport by taxis were at 55.3 percent, travelers traveled 1- 2 persons were at 57.4 and travelers arrived at Don Mueang Airport 2-3 hours before flight time was at the rate of 68.1 percent. The purposes of travel were for vacation and for work, representing 42.3 percent and 28.1 percent respectively. (2) The top three expenses traveler spent on were for food and beverage, for accommodation and for travelling, representing 25.3 pe

5. AN ANALYSIS OF INNOVATION IN ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND ITS LINK TO SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS

Authors: SERAH KALAMBO MBETWA

Abstract: Innovation and Entrepreneurship is an economic engine of any economy especially developing nations. A need therefore exists to understand entrepreneurship in the context of innovation and sustainable development goals. It is important to note that most entrepreneurs in Africa have failed to embrace innovation in its totality and as a result most businesses are unable to cope with the technological changes that are taking place every day. Therefore the cost of doing business has gone up. For example, entrepreneurs stick to the old ways of doing business instead of using new technologies to enhance business. Such businesses fail to cope with the ever changing world and subsequently lose market and wind up. It is sad to note that in Zambia for example most companies have scaled down due to high cost of doing business. In bettering the lives of the people, the United Nations have developed 17 sustainable development goals. In crafting their business strategies, entrepreneurs should therefo

6. US ROLE IN THE SECURITIZATION OF SOUTH ASIA WITH REFERENCE TO PAKINDIA SECURITY DILEMMA POST 9/11

Authors: SHAHID MEHMOOD

Abstract: This paper traces the role of U.S in the securitization of South Asia with reference to Pakistan–India security dilemma post 9/11. It argues that the U.S temptation and perplexity to make region safe and secure from threats particularly nuclearization and terrorism are often securitized by United States of America for its own political and strategic interests which subsequently create and intensify Pakistan- India security dilemma. 9/11 offered an opportunity for USA to set unparallel equations of relationship between India and Pakistan through Bush doctrine of unilateralism where former has been treated as strategic partner and later dubbed as strategic liability. This paper identifies existing gaps in the scholarly work with regard to the study. Moreover it explores contradictions in current strategy of USA and raises questions of serious nature regarding South Asian’s conventional and non-conventional security threats under prevailing changing security trends and dynamics.

7. THE QUANTILES ESTIMATION IN THE MONSOON SEASON OF THE SEVEN UNGUAGED SITES OF PUNJAB PAKISTAN WITH REGIONAL RAINFALL FREQUENCY ANALYSIS

Authors: AISHA EJAZ , UZMA NAWAZ , TOOBA NIHAL

Abstract: Pakistan is located between latitude 25o and 36o with strong spells of monsoon rains showering from June to September with somewhat variation in showers according to location. Heavy rains in monsoon season make dams, rivers and lakes overflow causing destructive floods. The scenario provoked the study on the estimation of regional rainfall quantiles of Annual Maximum Monsoon Rainfall Totals (AMMRT) of the seven unguaged sites of the Punjab province in Pakistan [1]. The estimates are obtained from L-moment based Regional Rainfall Frequency Analysis (RRFA) [2]. The monsoon data series of the seven sites of northern Punjab were found random and identically distributed with no serial correlation. These results were the output of the run test, lag-1 correlation and Mann-Whitney U test. The L-moment based discordancy measure exposed no site discordant in the group of seven. The heterogeneity measure concluded a homogenous region of the seven sites. The L-moment Ratio diagrams exposed the Gen

8. RECONCILIATION AS A POLITICAL DISCOURSE IN THAILANDS CURRENT CONFLICTS

Authors: STITHORN THANANITHICHOT , WICHUDA SATIDPORN

Abstract: Why do the Thai governments fail in solving a political conflict that has occurred since 2005 and maintaining peace through conducting a reconciliation process? This article answered this question through an assessment of how the term reconciliation has been defined and used by the Thai governments and political leaders during the past decades. This article argues that reconciliation in the Thai language is a term that has been dynamically interpreted, explained, and applied differently by policy makers, scholars, activists, and leaders of the conflicting groups. Several times, such an interpretation, explanation, and appliance have made this term a means to defeat the people of conflicting groups instead of a means of reconciling the society. The Thai old style of reconciliation, especially enacting laws to enforce peace and to use a coup in order to stop violence, is still implemented by political leaders. As a result, the political conflicts in this country sometimes have been pause
