1. RECONCILIATION AS A POLITICAL DISCOURSE IN THAILANDS CURRENT CONFLICTS

Authors: STITHORN THANANITHICHOT , WICHUDA SATIDPORN

Abstract: Why do the Thai governments fail in solving a political conflict that has occurred since 2005 and maintaining peace through conducting a reconciliation process? This article answered this question through an assessment of how the term reconciliation has been defined and used by the Thai governments and political leaders during the past decades. This article argues that reconciliation in the Thai language is a term that has been dynamically interpreted, explained, and applied differently by policy makers, scholars, activists, and leaders of the conflicting groups. Several times, such an interpretation, explanation, and appliance have made this term a means to defeat the people of conflicting groups instead of a means of reconciling the society. The Thai old style of reconciliation, especially enacting laws to enforce peace and to use a coup in order to stop violence, is still implemented by political leaders. As a result, the political conflicts in this country sometimes have been pause

2. RISK-BASED ASSET ALLOCATION SECTORIAL OR GEOGRAPHICAL SEGMENTATION?

Authors: GUIDO ABATE

Abstract: The objective of this work is to show how the risk-based portfolio construction techniques i.e. strategic asset allocation approaches without forecasts of expected returns reach different results depending on whether the investment universe of the stock market is divided on the basis of a geographic breakdown or in function of a sector breakdown, carried out in relation to the productive sectors to which the individual companies belong rather than according to the listing market. An empirical analysis, applied on the global equity market, is implemented by making use of the typical and most advanced statistical and financial evaluation measures. The results of this analysis show a significant preference for the sectorial criterion compared to the geographic one.

3. THE DECLINE OF SPARTA AND A LESSON FOR TODAY

Authors: ATHINA LORENTZIADI

Abstract: In 479 BCE, under the leadership of Sparta, the united Greek army defeated the massive invading armed force of the powerful Persian empire. Yet, in the course of two centuries, the once mighty state of Sparta experienced a dramatic downfall of its power due to a sharp population decline. By 245 BCE, full-citizens of Sparta numbered less than seven hundred. The aim of this study is to examine how the shortage of manpower could have been averted by instituting radical social changes promoting social advancement. The extent of the demographic collapse of Sparta is indirectly assessed by examining data from various historical sources about the size of the Spartan army in the course of time. Using mathematical modelling, a curve approximating the time series of the number of Spartiate soldiers is fitted. This model allows us to design a social reform program which, if implemented, would maintain the military power of Sparta. The policy suggested would initiate upward social mobility and int

4. ECO-DIGITAL SUPPLY CHAINS THROUGH BLOCKCHAINS

Authors: PIETRO DE GIOVANNI

Abstract: This paper shows how the implementation of Eco-digital Supply Chain can be realized through the adoption of a Blockchain technology. The focal company pushes suppliers at all tiers through the adoption of green practices for reducing the CO2 emissions and the related costs. Furthermore, logistics costs involved in the Supply Chain make the final assessment highly challenging. We identify the changes in both the Supply Chain structure and performance occurring when the Blockchain enables the creation of an Eco-digital Supply Chain.

Authors: KALAYANEE JITGARUN , KANYUMA JITJUMNONG , PASAPITCH CHUJAI , NORITSUGU KAMATA

Abstract: In the subject of electric power technology for electrical high school second year students in technical high schools, we think it is difficult to learn the contents of power generation with textbooks and limited class hours. In particular, learning the content of textbooks on hydropower, thermal power, nuclear power generation, and the content of power transmission would be extremely difficult. Therefore, in this study, a questionnaire on power generation and transmission was conducted before the class began. In order to examine the knowledge and understanding level of students who learned only with textbooks, we conducted a questionnaire in a free description format. After the class, the Internet was also used to conduct a questionnaire in the form of free description on the results of learning about the power generation and power transmission using the Internet. Rather than studying only with textbooks, it was reported that students were able to understand many more photos and video

Authors: GEORGE SKEBERIS , NIKOS VASSILIADIS

Abstract: During the last 50 years there is a strong trend around the globe for implementation and extension in base and in rates of Indirect Taxes and more specifically of Value Added Tax, Goods and Services Tax and Business Tax. In the same time many corporations are increasing in size and are extending the reach of their operations far away from the region that the base of their activities was focused. Authors: ADETULA , ADEKUNLE ISAAC , AMOS, TAIWO TIMOTHY

Abstract: Improved cassava varieties (ICV) were developed with several objectives among which are: to increase Households income and reduce poverty, reduce Households food insecurity, increase production and reduce various agricultural risks. Adoption rate of improved cassava varieties has increased translating to increase in annual income and annual consumption expenditure of farmers thus increasing welfare in Nigeria. Despite this adoption and production level, cassava production in Nigeria is still characterized by low yields compared to other cassava growing regions of the world. Cassava production in Nigeria from 2003 to 2010 is at about 29 metric tonnes per hectare short of her potential capacity of 40 metric tonnes per hectare. This study assessed the impact of improved cassava varieties cultivation on farming Households welfare in Ondo State, Nigeria. The study specifically described the socio-economic characteristics of the respondents, identified the improved varieties mostly cultivate

12. FINANCIAL INNOVATION AND ECONOMIC GROWTH IN ZIMBABWE

Authors: PIERRE LE ROUX , Sanderson Abel

Abstract: Financial innovation has transformed and restructured financial services and its impact on economies is becoming increasingly notable. The World Economic Forum (2012) postulated that the advancement in financial innovation is a driving force for broad economic growth. Despite this acknowledgement, the effect of financial innovation on economic growth in developing countries such as Zimbabwe has received little attention. The objective of the study is to explore how innovations that lie within the local financial system improve the flow of funds into the economic system for the benefit of other sectors of the economy. The ultimate goal is to evaluate the impact of financial innovation on economic growth. The study further looks at the causal relationship between financial innovation and economic growth. This was achieved by assessing the impact of increasing financial innovations on financial sector development. The study uses Zimbabwe as a case study. The motivation of the study emanat
