1. INVESTIGATION OF NEUTRAL AXIS SHIFTING AND WALL THICKNESS DISTRIBUTION OF BENT TUBES PRODUCED BY ROTARY DRAW BENDING

Authors: N. H. HASSAN

Abstract: Rotary draw bending is a method used for tube forming. During the tube bending process, the neutral axis moves towards the inner arc and the wall thickness changes in the cross section of the tube. Wall thinning of the tube takes place at the extrados, whereas wall thickening of the tube occurs at the intrados. This paper investigates the tube bending with rotary draw bending process using thick-walled tubes and different material properties (16Mo3 and 10CrMo9-10). The experimental tests and finite element simulations are used to calculate the variable characteristics (wall thickness distribution, neutral axis shifting and longitudinal strain distribution). These results are compared with results of a plasto-mechanical model. Moreover, the cross section distortion is investigated in this study. This study helped to get bends with smaller wall factor for different material properties

Authors: ALI DURUSU , MUGDESEM TANRIOVEN

Abstract: Solar- LED outdoor lighting system allows governments to illuminate remote areas without electric network. For these systems a battery is required to store energy from PV panel during the sunshine and supply the LED light during the night. This paper presents simple analytic procedure for optimal sizing of PV panel- LED light and battery combination considering radiation data. Real meteorological data are used in MATLAB to calculate system components capacity. After that, stand-alone and grid connected solar- LED system is presented in terms of optimum tilt angle and amount of surplus energy. Finally, the PV panel is oriented at optimum tilt angles for seasons and compared with energy which is obtained at annual optimum tilt angle

3. EFFECT OF ADSORPTION TO DESORPTION AIR MASS RATIO ON THE PERFORMANCE OF DOUBLE BED DESICCANT DEHUMIDIFICATION SYSTEM

Authors: Y.A.F. EL-SAMADONY

Abstract: In the present work, experimental investigation of the performance of double bed desiccant dehumidification system has been carried out. The two desiccant beds operate simultaneously. When one of the two beds functions as an adsorber, the second operates as a regenerator. In this investigation, silica gel is applied as the desiccant material. Hot air from an air heater is blown through the regenerated bed using an air blower. System performance at different conditions of flowing air is demonstrated. The experimental tests were carried out at different conditions of inlet air and initial bed parameters. Temperature and humidity of air at the inlet and exit of the bed were measured. The effect of adsorption to desorption air mass ratio is examined. In the present study, it is found that 63% regeneration to total air mass ratio is the optimum value.

Abstract: For the evaluation of the effectiveness of the brake system, most countries have a system of technical review. The test of brake inspection is done on a machine called brake tester. This checkpoint is uncomfortable for the user and it consumes some time of inspection that results in longer waiting time. To minimize this problem arises in this article a methodology to predict, in a large number of occasions, the result of the inspection of the braking system without having to resort to testing inspection by brake tester. The methodology is based on an exhaustive inspection data processing as well as validation of other checkpoints already exist in reviewing ITV consisting primarily of the visual inspection of the vehicle. This electronic document is a “live” template. The various components of your paper [title, text, heads, etc.] are already defined on the style sheet, as illustrated by the portions given in this document.

5. NUMERICAL SIMULATION OF WELDING DISSIMILAR STEEL SHEETS FOR USE IN TAILOR-WELDED BLANKS

Authors: ALI EL-ASHRAM , AHMED R. ELMASRY , ISLAM EL-GALY

Abstract: Tailor-welded blanks (TWBs) are primarily used in the automotive industry. Popular applications include: side frames, doors, pillars and rails. The TWB concept has several disadvantages. The most important disadvantage is the effect of the weld line on the formability of the TWB. This paper investigates the weldment quality by evaluating the localized stresses, strains and distortions that develop during welding. For the purpose of investigation, TWBs made of 304 stainless steel and A619 low carbon steel have been numerically simulated using a finite volume formulation. Blanks with different configurations (blank sizes, thicknesses and weldment type) have been simulated, so that the optimal processing parameters for each configuration can be determined. Conclusion about the scaling effect and the residual stresses in the welded blanks could be drawn based upon the evaluation of the different configurations

6. ATTITUDE AND VIBRATION CONTROL SYSTEM MODELING AND SIMULATION FOR A SPACECRAFT USING SMART MATERIALS

Authors: BASSAM A. ALBASSAM

Abstract: This paper is concerned with designing a control law for vibration suppression of a flexible spacecraft in the presence of external disturbances using distributed piezoelectric sensors and actuators. To satisfy pointing requirements and simultaneously suppress vibrations, two separate control actions are applied. The first action uses piezoceramics as sensors and actuators to actively suppress certain flexible modes through feedback control. The second control action uses open loop controller designed based on time optimal control theory to achieve fast maneuver. The two controllers has the ability to perform, simultaneously, minimum time maneuver and suppress the vibrations resulting from the bang-bang control spillover to the flexible modes. Modeling and simulation studies for the proposed control strategy on a flexible spacecraft have been carried out which demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

7. USING E-LEARNING IN THE DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION OF AN ITALIAN PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION

Authors: ANDREA MOLINARI , MILENA CASAGRANDA

Abstract: This paper presents a case study of using a Learning Management System and SCORM-based material in order to introduce companies to innovative practices, specifically the use of the Digital Signature and the Certified Electronic email. These two innovations, together with others, have recently become mandatory when enterprises will have to interact with the Italian Public Administration. This is an important push towards innovation through dematerialization processes, but it involves millions of citizens and companies. An enormous training effort is therefore needed to allow the Italian economic system to be aligned with these innovations. The latest example is the electronic invoice, that is mandatory in B2G since 31st of march 2015: no payments will be made by the Italian Public Administration to Italian companies if the invoice will not be created as an electronically-signed, XML based file. This paper presents our experience in the design, creation and delivery of distance learning

10. FORCES DETERMINATION ON THE STEERING WHEEL OF AN AUTOMOBILE VEHICLE

Authors: V. DIAZ , V. DIAZ , OLMEDA , A.M. GOMEZ,

Abstract: Facing the problem of experimental measurement of a torque that a motor vehicle driver applies on the steering wheel, it is required to study the devices prepared for this purpose. In the current market we can already find some tools with this aim, such as the dynamometric steering wheel. The exact measurement of the strength obtained in the steering wheel when making it turn is of great importance, due to the fact that all motor vehicles in use have to comply with the Directive 70/311/EEC, in which it is specified the maximum value of the force pressed on the steering wheel of any vehicle when performing a change of direction. As a consequence, in spite of the existence of available devices, it is advisable to follow the research on different measurement methods, since opting for the dynamometric steering wheel can raise costs and has an apparent lack of precision. Therefore, in this paper a new method of measuring torque in a motor vehicle is implemented, so that the use of the alrea

Authors: SEYED HADI HOSEINIE , BEHZAD GHODRATI, , DIEGO GALAR

Abstract: Automation is known as one of the most powerful tools for enhancing the mine productivity and safety. Automated mining machineries are so complex and capital intensive assets which need comprehensive maintenance, support and logistic planning to be able to meet their desired production goals. There are several technical, operational and safety challenges in the maintenance of this kind of machinery which force the mining companies to take the advanced solutions for increasing the maintenance quality and reducing the downtimes as much as possible. In this paper firstly the various automation modes of mining machinery are reviewed briefly. Thereafter, regarding to literature review and some field observation, three maintenance challenges are presented and discussed: safety of maintenance crew, maintenance big data and asset integration problems in mine automation systems. Considering the operational difficulties and safety issues the intelligent Reliability Centered Maintenance (iRCM) an

12. A FRAMEWORK FOR ENGINEERING DESIGN OPTIMIZATION

Authors: YOEL TENNE

Abstract: In modern engineering practice computer simulations are often used as a substitute for laboratory experiments. This setup yields a simulation-driven optimization problem in which the computer simulation acts as the objective function. Since simulation runs are typically computationally expensive, metamodels are used to approximate the simulation. However, this setup can face difficulties in high-dimensional problems as the accuracy of metamodels then becomes very poor. To address this issue this paper proposes an optimization framework which incorporates a dimensionality-reduction technique into the search. This allows to formulate a valid lower dimensional problem which is easier to solve. The solution found is then mapped back to the original high dimensional space. Performance analysis with an airfoil shape optimization problem shows the effectiveness of the proposed framework.

Authors: AGHIL SHAVALIPOUR , SALLEHUDDIN MOHAMED HARIS , YUZITA YAACOB, , ZULKIFLI MOHD NOPIAH

Abstract: The multiple model adaptive control (MMAC) method potentially has the ability of providing excellent control performance over a wide range of parameter variations. A key part in the design of a MMAC system is the choice of candidate models. In this work, a method to optimally determine these candidate models is proposed. The method exploits the relationship between Grobner bases and polynomial spectral factorization through the notion of sum of roots. Using computer algebra techniques, the symbolic solution to the Algebraic Riccati Equation, and hence the H2 optimal control problem, can be obtained. The symbolic solution gives the relationship between the optimal controller gains and the uncertain parameters. Hence, the candidate controllers in the MMAC system could be selected based on this relationship to best counter the parameter variations. To illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, a case study of a MMAC implementation on a quarter car active suspension with varying

Abstract: Several techniques exist to characterize the presence of remanent polarization and / or space charge in an insulating material. Among them which may be mentioned thermal methods such as the Thermal Wave Method (TWM). Among the most widely used polymers in electrical insulation, we find the polychloride vinyl (PVC). In this work, we describe the characterization of PVC sheaths to improving the reliability of power transmission cables. We set the objective to adapt the TWM for space charges measures in this material and under this cylindrical form. The study concerns a few samples of PVC sheaths, part of which has undergone aging until 4250h under alternating voltage of 20 kV sinusoidal AC voltage in the electrical engineering laboratory of Bejaia (LGEB). Also we have another lot of samples in new condition for comparison. The space charge measurements were made at LUSAC in Cherbourg. After presenting the specific banc measurement of MOT for this type of samples, we present the first cur
